“The Glasshouses” as it is known locally, is a horticultural project which uses organic methods to produce high quality fruit, vegetables and herbs, made available to the local community through shops, restaurants, a box scheme, and plant sales. The project is located in Killult, between Falcarragh and Gortahork, in the heart of the Gaeltacht (Gaelic-speaking region) of Cloughaneely on the northwest coast of Donegal, in the northwest of Ireland. The centre includes a one acre Glasshouse, several large polytunnels and an extensive area of arable land. It is run by a a community based company; Lárionad Acmhainní Nádúrtha (LAN Ctr.) ~ Centre for Natural Resources.
LAN Ctr. is run with the assistance of the Community Services Programme (CSP) administered by POBAL, and Údarás na Gaeltachta facilitate the ongoing development of the centre through the Rural Social Scheme administered by POBAL on behalf of the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection
The project is also supported by the following agencies and departments: Donegal County Council, Donegal ETB, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (FLAG – Fisheries Local Action Group; EIP – European Innovative Partnership).
